7 Tips for Writing an Attention-Grabbing Hook

Remove More Than One IDEA from Your Hook: Tactic 1

Actually, this is a beginner mindset.

Beginner thinks If I target a topic that has the potential of a 1 million audience and if I get only 2% of that audience then my content will get 20,000 views.

But things don’t work like this.

Best idea is while writing your hook if you find that in your hook you have 2 thoughts then make 2 separate posts on each instead of one post with 2 thoughts — confusing.

If your hooks causing confusion believe me nobody going to click and you will waste your time and your effort.

Don’t confuse and manipulate the audience/reader otherwise, you will ruin your image in the market.

Bold CLAIM in 5 Words: Tactic 2

This is true people not going to read your complete hook.

They decide whether they should read the full content or not in the middle of the hook.

In the video's first 10 seconds decide whether this video going to attract viewers or not same in text-based content your first 4 - 5 words are the deciding factor of your post.

Try to make a bold claim(also deliver, don’t try to scam people’s attention).

If you write 10 hooks on the same content you will get 1 best hook for your content.

So best thing you can do is focus on your first 5 words.

Hook you have 2 PARTS: Tactic 3

The more we play the game intentionally, the better results we will get.

A hook has two parts, let’s play a game and find those 2 parts from below hook:

Hook: Want to write better? These 5 essential tips will help you get started.

comment below if you find it

Those 2 parts are:

  1. Topic
  2. Target people

Your hook needs to resonate with people, you can’t target a mass audience, you need to be specific, and need to tell who this content is for.

The best example is “How to” content, How to itself a topic, and the rest is the target audience.

Trust me without practicing to write a perfect hook you will not be able to write a hook.

You need to practice trying to write 10 hooks for the same pieces of content and choose 1 best.

Launch with a SPECIFIC Point in Time: Tactic 4

Humans love deadlines.

People love doing work when the deadline is near.

Let’s check these 2 hooks which will get more engagement:

Hook 1: You will going to earn a million dollars one day

Hook 2: You will go to earn a million dollars in 1 year

Don’t go to sentence formation just see which one going to get more engagement I know your answer is Hook 2 because it has a specific time period it looks more real or achievable.

Writers make mistakes they try to scam people's attention by writing a short time period.

Yes, I agree in every hook you can’t use a time period but wherever possible this you will get more eyeballs on your hard work.

Conquer their OBSTACLE: Tactic 5

You want to earn money but don’t have money to invest.

Suddenly a post pops up on your home screen.

Title: How to earn money without a single dollar investment.

99% chance you will click because this title Conquer and addresses your problem.

If you writing an article or LinkedIn text post this is the best method to get more clicks on your content.

To find obstacles — Search your topic on Google, Answer the Public, and Quora to get people’s obstacles.

Figure out what problem your content solving then include that problem in your hook.

Add POWER Words: Tactic 6

In the copywriting world, marketers use a lot.

10 Power word — e.g.

  1. Boost
  2. Attract
  3. Eye-opening
  4. Upgrade
  5. Transform
  6. Winning
  7. Valuable
  8. Effortless
  9. Rewarding
  10. Unlock

Power word is a way to say the same thing in a more interesting way to get people's attention.

After writing your hook search for some words of your hook on Google, chatGPT, or Bard like this {Power word of [your word]}.

Include power words in your hook and also avoid using generic power words like amazing, great, etc.

Clever vs. Clear: Tactic 7

When you trying to be clever you actually hiding from the main thing or you have a false thing or you want to scam.

Clever = confusing — people don’t like

It is better to state a matter directly rather than to ramble on about it. Wandering around looks good only on politicians.

People love clear stuff if you say the thing that they want they will definitely come to your content to read and if you did a good job then they will take action to buy or engage.

People don’t like over-smart stuff so be simple, clear, and concise.

Conclusion

No matter how hard you work on the content, if the hook is not good then all your hard work is going to go in vain.

Hook is the first impression of the entire hard work that you done in your content which is behind the hook.

I share 7 powerful tactics that you use that will bring more engagement to your content.

  • Time period
  • Address problem
  • Clarity
  • Power word
  • 2 part of a hook
  • Multiple thought
  • Promising big
